Ringing in the Ears and Tinnitus

Tinnitus that Sounds Like Buzzing or Motor: Myths

Tinnitus is often called as ringing in the ears, but it is not heard as ringing alone. Some people perceive sounds as roaring, humming or clicking noises. For some, tinnitus that sounds like buzzing or motor is a reality. However, there are many things people should know about this condition, and many wrong notions should be corrected.

The following are misconceptions associated with this ear condition.

1.  Since there is no cure for tinnitus, nothing can be done.

Some websites have like doomsday reports for people with tinnitus, stating that there is no cure for tinnitus and that patients will have to succumb to the disorder. This is wrong. Although it is true that there is no cure for this ear disorder, there are a lot of things that can be done to help people with the condition cope with it.

2.  Loud ringing is a serious auditory problem.

This one is tricky. Tinnitus that sounds like buzzing or motor, and a great deal of either, is seriously annoying but seldom that it is a serious disorder or caused by a serious disorder. Should you have worries about your symptoms of tinnitus, go to your GP or your ear specialist right away. There are many reasons why the loudness of tinnitus increases. Progressive cochlear damage can be one. That is why on the onset of the condition, it is advised to stay away from ear-damaging loud noises to halt progress of acoustic trauma. Stress and anxiety are also aggravating factors that make one’s ringing or buzzing symptoms seem louder.

3.  Hearing somewhat a motor running inside my ears will cause deafness.

This is an outright myth. Tinnitus never causes deafness, but it can come accompanied by deafness. In fact, one symptom of hearing loss is ear ringing or buzzing ears, which one has to watch out for. Hearing strange ear noise after a rock concert may most probably indicate that damage to the ears and some degree of hearing loss have already occurred.

4.  This problem becomes worse as time goes by.

It depends upon the person. Healthy individuals become habituated with their tinnitus over time, and as they do so, they seem to no longer hear the head noises or they seem to no longer get bothered. Habituation is a process, a natural defense mechanism by the brain to cope with the malady. In a few individuals, this mechanism fails, however.

Tinnitus that sounds like buzzing or motor is a problem of millions of people worldwide, but is easily prevented only if everyone is willing to embrace a good life and shun away bad habits.
